Guidelines
for CIS Internship Program
Back
![]()
Students must register for classes other than CIS299 to meet the technical elective requirements for graduation. In the event that the student is hired as an intern, the student can then DROP the course that they enrolled in as a technical elective prior to the DROP/ADD deadline.
It is important for students to attend any informational meetings regarding internships.
Pick up a packet with the various internship forms at the meeting or from the internship advisor or from the website. Complete the "Statement of Intent Form" to indicate your desire to participate in the internship program and the sign the "Release Form".
Return a short paper describing your short term &long term career goals, your resume, a generic cover letter, & reference list to the internship advisor.
Sign up for sites to contact immediately & set up a time to visit a representative at the site about the internship program. Personal visits are recommended rather than telephone discussions. Bring resume, cover letter, & list of at least 3 references to the contact person at the site, so that they may consider you for an internship.
The internship advisor will continue to work with you to make industry contacts, but obtaining an internship is not guaranteed.
Once the student is hired, they must get the internship agreement form signed and bring that to the internship advisor. The student must then complete a DROP slip for the technical elective and an ADD slip for CIS 299. Students may not register for CIS299 until they have obtained a signed internship agreement form.
